Dance Xpressionz Drama? Members Starting New Show Following ‘Bartender’ Drama
After more than two decades of undoubtedly being dancehall’s corporate-friendly, dancing enclave, the Dance Xpressionz brand is being dragged into drama surrounding eight million dollars and a hurricane of an investor who is reportedly driving members out the door.
Founding Xpressionz member and recording artist Stacy-Ann ‘Goody Plum’ Facey is “distancing myself permanently from the Xpressionz JA company” following tensions with a “strange woman out of nowhere” who was appointed the entity’s business manager.
But before we get there, let’s rewind.
Remember when content creation boomed during the pandemic and your faves like Tami Chin Mitchell and Romain Virgo became Youtubers? Well, in that midst of that was Dance Xpressionz’s Kuyah Komedy series starring Facey and Sashi Xpressionz, who now goes by Sashi Dogbed.
Those skits provided a foundation for The Bartender, a dramedy centering Goody (Stacy) and her philandering boyfriend Dogbed (Sashi), and the issues that arise when a new bar chick, Browning (Special Black) comes to town. The plot incorporated other Xpressionz members, namely first lady Shelly Xpressionz and Shanice Caterpillar, with Xpressionz head Orville Hall behind the camera.
In no time, the show became a Sunday night staple attracting hundreds of thousands of viewers to their channel, and reported deals from TV stations and streaming platforms.
Then, per Facey, Dogbed and Special Black during a four-hour TikTok Live on Friday, things changed when a longtime fan was brought in late last year to help the show.
Up to speed? Let’s resume.
Facey said the issues started in December when she was removed from receiving payments for the channel – which she said she created – without explanation. Her primary contention was her email address being linked to the account, the password for which was reportedly changed without her knowledge. In trying to recover her email account, she was redirected to the mystery woman via video call, who allegedly questioned why “Orville allow you to have so much access to this” before reeling off a boatload of expletives.
In tears, Facey said, “She cuss up the badword and she gwaan but yuh know wah bun me? How dem quiet like mi a thief; bout how mi have so much access and yuh bloodcl**t know seh a Stacy create the channel. A Stacy do everything and yuh never have a problem with it and yuh mek a total stranger come and a wild up a foundation member and nobody tell this *slew of expletives* seh don’t talk to the girl so.”
She confronted Hall about it, who allegedly felt conflicted because of the lady’s investments in the group.
The straw that broke the camel’s back was inside talk that the channel earned eight million dollars, of which Facey “robbed” five.
“The page not even mek five million dollars cause if mi siddung and calculate or try fi ‘member, so, mi want fi know weh mi woulda get five million fi thief and give dem three million.”
She is now working on her own show with Dogbed, who, too, shared his experiences.
“From day one when we started working, it was never about money – it was about family,” he said. “Mi fraid a di word family right now cause mi nuh know who a family right now and this a the people who mi give more than a decade to.”
He continued, “Everybody have Orville as ‘the Professor’ and I’m supposed to be ‘the Professor’s son’, but you see the son? The son a do everything by himself.”
Special Black, who has since migrated, chimed in on being cut because she was “difficult to work with”. She also argued that the show doesn’t have a sole creator.
They said they are not asking folks to unsubscribe from the platform, but just wanted to share their truths surrounding their absence from the clique.
Could the fracas be a mere publicity stunt to draw attention to both shows? Only time will tell.
