Popcaan To Release ‘Great Is He’ Deluxe Edition With 8 New Songs
Dancehall artist Popcaan has announced that Great Is He Deluxe will be released on March 31, 2023.
Great Is He, Popcaan’s fifth studio album, was released on January 27. The original 17-track set will see an additional eight songs on the deluxe version, with one titled Bend It Over released yesterday (March 24, 2023).
The other tracks will include: Millionz, With You, No Expectations, Celebrate (featuring Black Sherif), Barbie Dolly, Light One, and Greatness.
During a recent interview with Crack Magazine, Popcaan, whose real name is Andrae Sutherland, said he had been urging his colleagues to move away from Dancehall’s ‘sporadic’ singles-based riddim culture to a more cohesive presentation like GIHE.
“No one’s doing it,” he said. “I try to appeal to my Jamaican artists, telling all of them to put out more albums. People just see Jamaican music as singles.”
Great Is He landed at No. 3 on the Billboard Reggae Albums chart during its first week; lower than the opening week debuts of his previous four studio albums. It sold 3,200 units in sales and streaming in the United States during its first week, according to data provided to DancehallMag from Billboard’s sales tracker Luminate at the time.
The album has so far spent seven weeks on the Billboard Reggae Albums chart, where it is currently at No. 9.
It featured Drake, on the lead track We Caa Done, Toni-Ann Singh on Next To Me, Burna Boy on Aboboyaa, and Chronic Law on St. Thomas Native. The production credits included long-time collaborators Dane Ray, Anju Blaxx, Dre Skull, and TJ Records.
The announcement of a GIHE Deluxe has been welcomed by the Unruly Boss’ fans, who declared that the original was a win in their books.
“Album to fire a deluxe is def needed,” one user commented on Instagram.
“This one gonna hit heavy heavy,” another said.
One more supporter chimed in with, “Nonstop progress mi fam”
Dancehall veteran Bounty Killer even added his endorsement by typing four fire emojis.
It is not easy to predict Popcaan’s next moves, but he is almost always up to something. He linked up with Chance The Rapper recently, who was on the island to plan the Black Star Line Festival to be held in Kingston.
