D Howell Teams Up With Ding Dong And Nicky B For ‘Man Dem’
Recording artist and producer Damien “D Howell” Howell has teamed up with Nicky B and Ding Dong for the single Man Dem which was released today (March 27, 2023) via Diamien Records.
Howell explained how the collaboration came about. He is also featured on the track.
“Well Nicky B has always been a close friend of mine. We have known each other for years. Ding was always one of my favorite artistes so when I did the beat he was the perfect fit in my mind for this beat. As the song blossomed, it grew more into a Ding Dong collaboration,” said Howell.
Howell, who is originally from Charlemont in St Catherine, has been involved in music production for the past eighteen years. Now residing in Canada, he has worked with the likes of Sean Paul, Beenie Man, Karl Wolf and Danny Fernandes, among others.
He added that working with Ding and Nicky B was a seamless experience.
“Working with those two guys has been a blessing. Lots of laughter, lots of fun. It’s just been a blast on a different level,” he shared.
Man Dem speaks to the stereotypical appreciation that Jamaican men have for several women, simultaneously.
“Man dem, gyal dem/ Dat ah Jamaican talk dem/ Love gyal/ Need dem/ Dat ah Jamaican anthem…”the hook says.
Meanwhile, D Howell is content with the name he has made for himself and believes he possesses unique qualities.
“What set me apart from others is the passion for the music. That, I think, is embedded in my blood. The love for the music and the talent all wrapped in one,” he said.
With almost two decades of expertise, the producer added that he is pleased with the trajectory that Dancehall music is on.
“Well evolution, in my opinion, is always a great thing in life generally speaking. It gives the younger generation an edge, where at one point it would be harder to break into the industry. So, I think it’s a good thing,” he said however citing that all Dancehall artists need to bring “more love.”
D Howell also has a myriad of other projects working on.
“Well, I have a song with Sean Paul (so I’m) working on that release. World Cup is gona be in Canada so I’m working on a project to do a soundtrack for FIFA. Lots of other stuff in the pipeline. Movies are in the works too,” he said.
