Skeng Makes Appearance In Nicki Minaj’s Video For ‘Red Ruby Da Sleeze’
Dancehall artist Skeng made an appearance in Queen of Rap Nicki Minaj’s official music video for Red Ruby Da Sleeze. Released on Saturday (May 13), the visuals already have over 634,000 views on YouTube.
Back in February, Minaj teased behind-the-scenes clips from the music video shoot in Trinidad around the same time she and the London deejay were visiting for carnival.
The rapper endorsed the new music video on her Instagram page, while wishing her fans a happy Mother’s Day.
“VIDEO OUT NOW ‼️‼️‼️ ITS 🫖… Happy Mother’s Day & Happy MUVA’s day to all the mommies & all the baddies who make the world go round 🌎”
Most of the video features her friend and Basketball Wives: LA star Brooke Bailey. For Skeng’s part, he casually leans against the front of a pink Rolls Royce puffing a spliff, while Minaj comfortably lies atop the bonnet rapping.
Red Ruby Da Sleeze samples the Lumidee version of Steven ‘Lenky’ Marsden ‘s two-decade-old Diwali riddim.
Released in 2002, the clap-filled Diwali Riddim had featured Sean Paul’s Get Busy , Wayne Wonder’s No Letting Go, both of which entered the Billboard Hot 100 chart, as well as Jamaican hits such as Bounty Killer’s Sufferer , Wayne Marshall’s Overcome , Danny English & Egg Nog’s Party Time , and Agent Sasco’s Ruffest and Tuffest .
Harlem singer Lumidee’s R&B rendition of Diwali in her song Never Leave You (Uh Oooh, Uh Oooh), went on to peak at No. 3 on the Hot 100 back in 2003.
Rihanna and Brick & Lace later had their own musical experiments on the riddim with Pon De Replay, and Love is Wicked , respectively.
