Shaggy’s ‘In The Mood’ First Week Album Sales Are In

In The Mood, the Soca-leaning EP from Dancehall megastar Shaggy, failed to enter any Billboard album chart following its release on May 12.

The 7-track set sold 300 units in sales and streaming in the United States during its first week of release, according to data provided to DancehallMag from Billboard’s sales tracker Luminate. 

This figure includes 100 copies in pure album sales.

Luminate also revealed that In The Mood has moved 800 units, including 281,000 audio and video streaming in the US, over its lifetime.

The lifetime figure includes digital sales and streaming equivalent units from the three singles released before the EP drop last week: Mood with Kes, Whine and Jumping with Patrice Roberts, and Don’t Run with Skinny Fabulous.

VP Records released the collection and noted that Shaggy drew “inspiration from the vibrancy of the Caribbean, and the fast-paced exuberance of Trinidad and Tobago Carnival.”

The project, which bore elements of EDM and Dancehall, also featured the songs Buddy Bye with Konshens and Noah Powa, I Love Her, Liquor Buss with Noah Powa and Future Fambo, and Well Talented with Buju Garlin.

Interestingly, In The Mood was Shaggy’s first extended play.  

The 54-year-old has released 16 full-length albums since his 1993 debut Pure Pleasure, which included the hits Oh Carolina, Big Up with Rayvon, Soon Be Done, and Nice and Lovely with Rayvon.

Pure Pleasure has so far sold over 167,000 units in the US, while Boombastic (1995) has sold 1.2 million, Lucky Day (2002) has sold 500,000, and Hot Shot (2000) has sold 8 million.

Meanwhile, on the Billboard Reggae Albums chart dated May 27, Bob Marley & The Wailers’ Legend are No. 1 for the 175th non-consecutive week.

Shaggy’s Best of Shaggy: The Boombastic Collection is at No. 2, followed by Sean Paul’s Dutty Classics Collection is at No. 3.

UB40’s Greatest Hits is at No. 4, while Stick Figure’s Wisdom, World On Fire and Set In Stone albums are at No. 5, 6, and 7, respectively.

Iration’s Backyard Sessions: Malibu Edition is at No. 8, while Rebelution’s Count Me In and Falling Into Place albums have re-entered the chart at No. 9 and 10, respectively.
