Popcaan Cancels London Show Due To ‘Incompetent’ Former Unruly Team Member
Dancehall star Popcaan has announced the “unavoidable cancellation” of his concert at the O2 Arena in London due to what his management has described as the ‘incompetence and negligence’ of a “former” Unruly team member.
The Numbers Don’t Lie deejay also announced a slew of added guests for the lineup of Unruly Fest 2023, which is slated for December 22 in St. Thomas. Eastside deejay Skillibeng, newcomer Najeeriii, veteran act I-Wayne, and American rapper Fivio Foreign were added.
In a statement on Monday, the Unruly Management team said that investigations are still ongoing to uncover the chain of events that led to the cancellation of the London show, which was set for November 30.
“…Popcaan was early anticipating the opportunity to connect with you for what was set to be an unforgettable night of music and unity,” the statement said in part.
“The cancellation has been caused by a now former critical member of his team who failed to completely fulfill critical milestones in the preparatory stages of the production. We are investigating further to determine whether there was a motive behind the inexplicable chain of events and to ensure that such issues do not recur in the future.”
Popcaan, however, said that despite this bump in the road, Unruly Fest will still be going to the United Kingdom in the future.
Additionally, the statement said that measures will be implemented to reschedule the concert at a date to be announced.
“We understand the disappointment and frustration this cancellation will cause, and we want to express our sincere apologies to all the fans who had been looking forward to this event. Despite this setback, Popcaan remains committed to making things right. He is determined to reschedule the London concert and provide an unforgettable experience for all his fans.”
“Once again, on behalf of Popcaan and Unruly Entertainment Ltd., we extend our deepest apologies for any inconvenience stemming from this cancellation. We thank you for your understanding and patience…”
Meanwhile, tickets have gone on sale for Unruly Fest 2023, the first staging of which was held in December 2018 at Goodyear Oval in St Thomas.
It was a completely sold-out event, which saw thousands of local and international fans turn up to see the deejay, special guests Drake and Tory Lanez, and other entertainers live. It, however, took a three-year hiatus, partly due to the pandemic.
“Look like mi know where I’m going to be December 22 if life spare,” said one fan.
“Ready long time that is the unruly way bro gad,” added another.
Meanwhile, another said, “It a go maad ova deh suh 🔥🔥🔥, wi a wait mi General 🤟🏾🤟🏾🤟🏾”
In the meantime, Popcaan will still be be live in concert in Berlin, Paris, Oslo, Stockholm, Dublin, Manchester, and Amsterdam for his Great Is He tour.
Great Is He was hiss fifth album, which landed at No. 3 on the Billboard Reggae Albums chart back in February, lower than the opening week debuts of his previous four studio albums.
It sold 3,200 units in sales and streaming in the United States during its first week, according to data provided to DancehallMag from Billboard’s sales tracker Luminate at the time.
