Cedella Marley To Release Children’s Book Based On Bob Marley’s ‘Is This Love?’
Cedella Marley, Bob Marley’s eldest child, is keeping her father’s message and memory alive with the pending publication of her latest book—Is This Love? The 56-year-old, who has published multiple books over the years, shared the news that the project drops on November 21.
“I am overjoyed to share my newest book, ‘Is This Love?’ will be published on November 21st 💚 For me, ‘Is This Love’ is more than just a book; it’s a vibrant and imaginative tribute to the timeless love that binds families together. It delivers sweet and meaningful message – that the cherished moments with our loved ones are the true treasures of life…” she noted.
Illustrated by Alea Marley, the book is described as a “heartwarming tale of an older child’s love for a younger sibling.”
“From the moment she sees her baby sister, big sister knows just what she’s going to do: love her and treat her right, every day and every night. Playing together, watching over her, standing by her through thick and thin . . . big sister does it all, because yes, this is love that she’s feeling.”
The song Is This Love appeared on Bob Marley And Wailers’ 1978 album Kaya and was later included in the Diamond-selling Legend compilation.
It peaked at No. 9 on the UK Singles chart, while the music video, shot in London, had featured future supermodel Naomi Campbell, who was then nine years old.
Cedella, who is the CEO of the Bob Marley Group of Companies, has authored several other children’s books inspired by her father Bob Marley and his renowned songs, namely The Boy From Nine Miles (The Early Life Of Bob Marley), Every Little Thing, One Love, and Get Up Stand Up.
In addition, she has a cookbook, Cooking With Herb (75 Recipes For The Marley Natural Lifestyle), and others, Redemption (Reflections on Creating a Better World), The Healer’s Way: Bringing Hands-On Compassion To A Love-Starved World, 56 Thoughts from 56 Hope Road: The Sayings and Psalms of Bob Marley, Bob Marley My Son, and Marley and the Family Band (2022).
In the latter, which was co-authored by Tracey Baptiste and illustrated by Tiffany Rose, Cedella shared her story growing up as a migrant kid in Delaware.
“[The book] chronicles my life when we moved to Delaware, we came from Jamaica and moved to Wilmington, Delaware when I was a young girl,” Cedella told CBS News in an interview around the time of its release. “And I just wanted to share that experience of being a migrant kid at the time and bringing music to the neighborhood,” she continued. “It’s also a shout out to the unifying power of music as well as the importance of migration stories for children like myself and others.”
Already, supporters have been showing out as they anticipate Cedella’s latest literary offering.
“I love it, Is this love and now you made a book, it’s beautiful ❤️✨” said one Instagram user.
“I love your books! I bought ‘Marley and the Family Band’ and ‘Every Little Thing’ last year for my granddaughters! ❤️,’ said another.
