Masicka’s ‘Generation Of Kings’ Debuts On Two Billboard Charts

Masicka‘s sophomore album, Generation of Kings, has debuted on two Billboard charts.

Billboard revealed on Tuesday that the 17-track album opened at No. 2 on the weekly Reggae Albums chart, which ranks the most popular Reggae albums in the United States based on sales and streaming metrics measured in equivalent album units.  Each unit represents one album sale or ten individual tracks sold from an album, 3,750 ad-supported streams, or 1,250 paid streams from an album.

The album has also debuted at No. 14 on the Billboard Heatseekers Albums chart, which ranks the sales by new and developing musical recording artists each week.

Released via Def Jam Recordings on December 1, Generation of Kings sold 3,500 units total from sales and streaming during its first week of release in the United States, according to data provided to DancehallMag from Billboard’s sales tracker, Luminate.  This included 600 copies in pure album sales.

It featured Popcaan, Dexta Daps, Queen of Dancehall Spice, Chronic Law, Lila Iké, Nigerian singer Fave and Haitian-American singer Fridayy, and contributions from producers Mario ‘Dunw3ll’ Dunwell, Boi-1da, Atto Wallance, Moz ‘Mozeeko’ Hamm, and Donald ‘Razzy’ Chen, among others.

Masicka’s first album, 438, which was released independently in December 2021, had also debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard Reggae Albums chart after selling 2,864 units (including 733 pure copies) in its first week. The album became the third-best-selling Jamaican album of 2022, after Koffee’s Gifted and Shenseea’s Alpha.

Meanwhile, on the Reggae Albums chart this week, Bob Marley and the Wailers’ Legend: The Best Of Bob Marley And The Wailers continued its reign at No. 1 for the 204th non-consecutive week.

Shaggy’s Best of Shaggy: The Boombastic Collection is at No. 3, followed by Sean Paul’s Dutty Classics Collection at No. 4 and Stick Figure’s World On Fire, Wisdom, and Set In Stone albums at No. 5, 6 and 7, respectively.

UB40’s Greatest Hits compilation is at No. 8, while Byron Messia’s No Love album has re-entered the chart this week at No. 9. Iration’s Backyard Sessions: Malibu Edition is at No. 10.
