Shenseea Says She’s Choosing The High Road: ‘I’ve Been Getting Mad Hate’

Shenseea entered 2024 with a lot on her chest, but she’s choosing to take the high road.

The multi-genre artist has been deep in prayer while navigating what she describes as “mad hate” hurled her way. Her immediate label principal, Rvssian, recently revealed that they haven’t spoken in two years due to differences over her musical direction. Shenseea signed to his Rich Immigrants label in 2019, which is under the major label Interscope Records. 

“There’s so many things that I wanna speak on bro…” the Tie Me Up singer said on Instagram Live yesterday. “I think that a lot of people have been seeing that I’ve been getting mad hate, you feel me? But just know that I’m staying prayed up… I always try to choose the high road no matter what, and you just cya believe everything that you see on the net.”

The ‘Shenyeng’ boss was in The Bahamas for a private performance while kicking it with her fans online. Some viewers enquired about her side of the story regarding Rvssian’s remarks. She didn’t directly address those comments or say any names, and instead chose to keep things positive.

“I feel like at the end of everything, like it doesn’t matter what, like, good people always win in the end,” she said. “That’s how I feel and that’s why sometimes you guys don’t see me respond to certain sh*t. Mi just feel like once I know that, I try to always do good to people because I feel like whatever you put out, that’s what you’re gonna get back… So, I really try to deal with people the best way that I can and treat everybody with the same respect.”

In another Instagram Live, days into the new year, Shenseea had told fans that she was grossly unhappy in 2023 because of matters she could not publicly discuss. 

“I’m way happier this year,” she shared. “Last year, there was really a lot going on with the business that I really couldn’t tell you guys about. I felt like I lost control of my music, as in like, people was just choosing what to drop… So, I’m not doing that this year. I told my whole team, my label, my management that listen, this year, Shenyeng a run things again, okay? I’m choosing my releases. I’m not just gonna get up and throw sh*t out there no more.”

She said things still aren’t hunky-dory at the label, but she’s in a better place. 

“I wasn’t as involved with the music last year because there was a lot going on behind-the-scenes that I really could not tell you guys about, and even now, there’s still some sh*t going down but it’s not making me unhappy like how I was last year,” she said. “I was really f**king unhappy last year, stressed as f**k, that’s why you guys saw me losing weight like a motherf**ker. But this year, I told them, cause for my whole career, I choose all my releases and I’m gonna do it so this year.” 

Her issue of control contrasts Rvssian’s statement of allowing her creative freedom to do the music she desires, even footing the bill for her videos. 

One viewer posited that she needs to work with Romeich Major, the man who helped her rise to the local fore, much through street marketing. Shenseea maintained that he’s still part of her camp, “but also, Romeich lost control of the music as well, we both did cause we were, as mi seh, mi cya too tell unno bout it guys.”

Shenseea welcomed Wassim Slaiby as her new manager in 2021. Slaiby is CEO of SAL & CO Management and XO Records which manages stars like Doja Cat and The Weeknd.
