Stephen ‘Di Genius’ McGregor Shares “Full-Circle Moment” With Daughters In Studio

Jamaican producer Stephen ‘Di Genius’ McGregor shared a fond daddy-daughter moment with his X followers on Sunday, which he said brought him down memory lane.

Di Genius, who is one of the sons of veteran Reggae singer Freddie McGregor, posted a photo of one of his daughters on his lap as he was hard at work in the studio with She’s Royal artist Tarrus Riley.

“Full circle moment last night. Recording Tarrus & had my girls in studio w/ me the whole session. My dad used to take us to the studio all the time,before we had our own. ❤️ Big song on the way 👨🏾‍🔬,” he captioned the post.

The 34-year-old father of two has previously shared proud moments with his children.

Of course, Sunday’s candid was received with appreciation from virtual onlookers who respected Di Genius for simultaneously balancing two of the most important roles in his life. 

“Great memories made with your daughters ✨ Can’t wait to hear the music 🙌🏽,” said one X user.

“Wicked combination deh 💯👊,” another said.

One curious follower inquired about whether the producer has plans to revamp one of his classic riddims, similar to what Rvssian did with the Dutty Money Riddim. 

For those who were optimistic, Di Genius quickly shut down the idea. 

“🎵 No sir, Not me! 😅. Have some mad New ting tho 😎,” he said.

Speaking of classics, Di Genius dubbed his 2008 Day Break Riddim as the “most complicated riddim” he ever made. He shared a clip to show its complexity, and explained to fellow producers the steps he took to achieve what is still one of the most memorable rhythms in Dancehall.

“For the producers,the process was : Mpc(for the drums) through the analog mixer, into protools. Then I play every synth/instrument live into protools & loop it in there (no quantizing on the music EVER) cut vocals, mix & master in protools,” he said.

Believe it or not, he also made use of nature’s own gifts in the making of the riddim.

“Also, you hear the breeze in di riddim? BREEZE enu dawg!? 😭😂😂👨🏾‍🔬,” Di Genius added.

Day Break had featured a host of talents including his brother Chino, Vybz Kartel, Aidonia, Mavado, Laden, Elephant Man, Future Fambo, Frisco Kid and more.
