YG Marley’s ‘Praise Jah’ Enters Top 10 In The UK, Teejay’s ‘I Am Chippy’ EP Debuts On Billboard Reggae Chart
YG Marley’s infectious debut single, Praise Jah In The Moonlight, has entered the top ten on the Official UK Singles chart, while Dancehall artist Teejay’s debut EP I Am Chippy has made an entry on the Billboard Reggae Albums chart.
Praise Jah In The Moonlight has taken the world by storm since it was independently released on December 27, 2023. On the UK Singles chart dated February 14, the song has moved up to No. 9, up from No. 20 last week.
Should it reach No. 1 in the coming weeks, YG, who’s the son of Lauryn Hill and Rohan Marley, and grandson of the late Bob Marley, will join an exclusive club of Reggae and Jamaican artists who have topped the listing, including Desmond Dekker, UB40, Shaggy, Ken Boothe, Sean Paul, and OMI.
On the US Billboard Hot 100, Praise In The Moonlight now sits at No. 60, up from its debut at No. 74 last week. It’s the first Reggae song on the chart since Jay-Z and Damian ‘Jr. Gong’ Marley’s Bam, which peaked at No. 47 in 2017.
In the US, the song’s popularity has been partly fuelled by social media, illustrated by its debut at No. 20 on the TikTok Billboard Top 50 this week. This chart ranks the most popular songs on TikTok in the US based on creations, video views and user engagement.
The song also moves up to No. 21 on the Canadian Hot 100 chart, up from No. 33 last week, and it holds the No. 1 spot on the New Zealand Songs chart for the second week.
On the Billboard Global 200 chart, the song has jumped 61 places to No. 20, up from its debut at No. 81 last week, while the Billboard Global Excl. US chart lists the song at No. 21, up from No. 95 last week.
YG is also currently at No. 9 on the Emerging Artists chart, up from No. 20 last week.
