Pamputtae Wants To Join Nicki Minaj’s ‘Pink Friday 2’ Tour
Dancehall artist Pamputtae wants to join Nicki Minaj’s Pink Friday 2 tour which kicks off in the United States on March 1.
“Mi wish mi did have mi USA work permit to go on pink Friday tour with @nickiminaj,” the Ride It deejay wrote in her Instagram Story on Tuesday. “I know I would do a good job.”
The rap superstar reposted the Story, adding some assurance. “In due time babes,” Minaj wrote.
The upcoming tour is Minaj’s best-selling to date with more than 25 arenas selling out in just days of presale, according to Live Nation Entertainment.
RnB singer Monica, who Minaj has cited as an early musical influence, is the only announced supporting act who will join her during the American leg.
Pamputtae had previously aired her desire to form part of the tour during Minaj’s Instagram Live last week. The Super Bass hitmaker was asking for a hairstylist to join her on the road when she saw Pamputtae in the comments.
“Pamputtae, if you can come out here right now, I will hire you right now on the spot, Pamputtae,” she said. “And then, you can be on the tour and every night we can do our song, the Fine Nine tings.”
Pamputtae shared that she has a Canadian visa, likely proposing to join Minaj for her Canadian tour dates in April.
The two first connected in September 2021 when Minaj endorsed Pamputtae’s music on Instagram , sending a flood of new followers to the It Good deejay’s profile. Then came her inclusion on the Fine Nine Remix, an all-female take on Skeng’s 2022 Likkle Miss track.
In a 2023 feature with BBC 1Xtra’s Seani B, Pamputtae spoke on how the track drastically changed her trajectory.
“(I’ve had) more interviews, more shows, and whole heap more people see me – international people, too, see the things and follow the thing and go look up pon Pamputtae and see all of the things weh mi been a do from back then til now…”
Pamputtae may get the chance to perform with Minaj when she takes the Pink Friday 2 tour to the Caribbean.
Others expected to grace the regional leg of the tour are Skeng, Skillibeng and Beenie Man, all of whom are represented on her new album.
The 22-track set features Forward From Trini with Skillibeng and Skeng, a song she’s had to defend in the past.
The Big Difference rapper has been unapologetic about her fandom for Skeng, whom she previously dubbed “the future”.
She cosigned Skillibeng by hopping on the Crocodile Teeth remix in 2021, and even brought him out on shows.
Pink Friday 2 also includes Needle (featuring Drake) which interpolates Beenie’s Wickedest Slam, and Just the Memories, inspired by Beenie’s Memories (taken from a Johnny Bristol original).
Minaj’s reverence for Beenie is longstanding, with the pair collaborating on Gun Shot in 2012 for her Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded album.
Dancehall also appears on the project with the previously-released Red Ruby Da Sleeze, built on Steven ‘Lenky’ Marsden’s iconic Diwali rhythm.
As for Minaj’s Trini connections, she’s long hailed Destra Garcia as the Queen of Bacchanal, and included her and Patrice Roberts in the Fine Nine collab. Minaj also worked with Destra on Shake the Place with Machel Montano. All artists kicked it together for Trinidad and Tobago’s 2023 carnival.
These acts aside, Minaj has also worked with Jamaican acts Gyptian and Mavado.
