‘For The Love of Reggae’ – Movie Documentary Coming Soon
Movie producer Marcia Deans, a native of Spanish Town, is set to make waves not only with her upcoming documentary, ‘For the Love of Reggae,’ but also with her groundbreaking strides in introducing cutting-edge technology to bolster the Jamaican film industry.
Currently in Jamaica, Deans is actively promoting her project, which delves into the rich history and evolution of Jamaican Dancehall Reggae music. Speaking to DancehallMag, she shared her deep connection with Jamaica and the inspiration drawn from the annual ‘Rebel Salute’ event.
“I come here for a purpose – to meet these amazing artists for a project I’m working on, ‘For the Love of Reggae.’ It’s a documentary about the evolution of our great music,” Deans said. She is presently collaborating with JAMPRO and seeking a grant for filmmakers to ensure the successful completion of her cinematic endeavor.
“I’m very excited for JAMPRO to support filmmakers like me. The objective this year is to go to the Cannes Film Festival in France, where I’ll present the trailer and hopefully secure distribution. I plan to showcase a 60 to 90-minute documentary – a journey through the evolution of our music,” she added.
The 77th Cannes Film Festival, a prestigious international event celebrating the best of world cinema, is scheduled to take place from May 14th to 25th, 2024. Deans aims to leverage this platform to garner international attention for ‘For the Love of Reggae.’
What sets Deans apart is not only her dedication to the documentary but also her partnership with a French company, introducing a revolutionary 3D element program that eliminates the need for 3D glasses. This technological innovation holds promise for Jamaican filmmakers, opening doors to new possibilities and opportunities for them.
“I’m honored and privileged to be a trailblazer in that sense. Peace and blessings,” Deans expressed, highlighting the relationship between technology and the Jamaican film industry, and the fact that she is happy to introduce it.
She also revealed her involvement in a symposium at JAMPRO titled ‘Jamaican Screen Development Initiative,’ emphasizing the importance of proactive measures in strengthening the local film scene.
With letters of intent already signed with various artists for her documentary, Deans eagerly anticipates the official opening of the JAMPRO grant application on March 18th, 2024. This grant is not just a financial boon for her movie but also a strategic move to introduce groundbreaking technology to Jamaican filmmakers, securing a brighter future for the industry.
