‘Monsieur’ Skillibeng Wows Paris
There have been calls yet again for Skillibeng to be offered a modeling contract after the Mr. Universe artist shared photos of himself strutting around the parish in a trench coat and Cuban heel boots.
Not only that, his amused fans have begun to confer upon him various French titles, among them Monsieur Beng De Skillè, Monsieur Beng, and the British aristocrat-sounding “Sir Skilliet Benginton the First.”
Skillibeng was in France for the first time where he served as the main act for “Starlight” Paris on Friday night (March 8). Photos and videos shared by the event promoters show the shirtless artist, among other things, performing the song Sexy, as a throng of women sing along with him like a choir.
In another clip he utters: “This is the last song before I leave. Lets go Paris, brrrrp,” before instructing his audience to: “seh bomboclaat”.
Another clip shows the St. Thomas native upon arrival, walking through the airport draped in the Jamaican flag, then later smoking a spliff in a parking lot amidst several luxury cars and walking around in a sweatsuit and ski goggles.
The promoters of the event had begun advertising the show, on January 26, stating that the first edition of Starlight Edition was “just a warm up” and it was time to “get serious” as Skillibeng “the one who made us lose our minds from the first notes with his hit Crocodile teeth”, would make his debut performance in the French capital at the “party of the year”.
As for his attire on his Instagram page, some fans likened it to that of British street gang Peaky Blinders, who were based in Birmingham, England and operated between the 1880s and the 1910s, and were known for their dapper appearance exemplified by signature outfits consisting mainly of tailored jackets, silk scarves, lapelled overcoats, buttoned waistcoats, leather boots, and peaked flat caps.
“It’s a f-cking peaky blinder mate! lmao that’s all I coulda think of when I saw it,” janastraker wrote to which richlife_reece replied: “dis da comment mih looking for because I thought d same ting to 😂”
However, there were some who laughed at Skillibeng’s boots, claiming that the heels were too high.
“Da boot deh shakey breda u ina trouble,” one man said.
In May 2022, many eyes were on Skillibeng to become Jamaica’s “next top male model” after a portrait photo of him, clad in Trapstar gear, with his hair covered, was reshared by a Twitter user, who expressed amazement at his looks.
The post had spawned a slew of comments including one woman calling for him to “hit somebody’s runway” with “that interesting model face”.
Others suddenly found the Whap Whap Whap artiste to be hot, while some expressed admiration for his eyes while pointing out that his usually uncombed or half-combed hair, had always drawn attention away from his face.
In addressing Skilli’s crown, some women said that with his sometimes Don King-like hairstyle out of the way, they were now able to look at his face in detail, and were pleased with what they were seeing.
Some of the comments on IG had been hilarious, with fans imagining the Jamaican star, on the catwalk pioneering out-of-the box antics such as with a big spliff in his mouth and toting his Jansport knapsack in which he supposedly carried his imaginary AK-47 rifle.
On both Instagram and Twitter, there were also some women who compared the Morant Bay High School old boy’s facial features to that of Rihanna’s beau A$AP Rocky, saying he looked like a “rugged version” of the rap star and model, who was declared by GQ magazine as the Prettiest Man Alive in June 2021, and who, in June 2016, became the first black person to become the face of Dior Homme.
However, there were some commenters who were of the view that Skilli as a runway model would not materialise, despite his height and looks being ideal, as the profession was highly stigmatized and his colleagues would also try to dissuade him from engaging in modelling contracts as “bad man nuh maggle”.
