Nigy Boy Graduates With Double Major From Stony Brook University: “I Made It!”
Dancehall artist Nigy Boy is officially an honours graduate of the Stony Brook University in New York with a Bachelor of Arts degree, double majoring in political science and history.
The singer, whose real name is Nigel Hector, shared a clip from the momentous occasion which saw him crossing the stage at the graduation ceremony.
The caption was simple, but captured the essence of the occasion. “I made it!,” he wrote.
Nigy Boy’s DJ Tony Stir who was in attendance, shared congratulatory greetings to the fast rising star after the ceremony earlier today. “I’m so honored to present to you Stony Brook University’s newest graduate,” he wrote on Instagram.“ One bachelor’s degree today, AND ONE MORE TOMORROW! I’m so happy for you my brother. Oh, did I mention he graduated with HONORS? Yes indeed!!! Dancehall reggae’s newest graduate.”
The Jamaican-born New York-based artist, who became blind at birth, shot to fame earlier this year with the release of Continent, one of the first songs on Rvssian’s popular Dutty Money riddim. He’s since followed up with Judgement, another song produced by Rvssian on the Payment Plan riddim.
On May 7, the singer received a standing ovation during a session of the New York State Assembly, where he was invited as a special guest.
During the sitting, House Speaker Carl Heastie hailed Nigy Boy for his contribution to the music and creative industry
“Thank you for your incredible contribution to music and the arts and such an incredible following. Also, we look forward to hearing you at the UBS. Continue your great work and know you’re always welcome here,” Heastie said in part, at the time.
In February, Nigy Boy returned to Jamaica for a two-show appearance and a visit to his alma mater, the Salvation Army School for the Blind and Visually Impaired.
He is set to grace the stage at Reggae Sumfest in July.
