Her co-manager, Romeich Major, told DancehallMag that the singer is eyeing the most prestigious musical honors with the project.
“I know for sure she wants to win the Grammy,” Major said. “We want to go into the top 10 Billboard in the world because we’ve been on various types of Billboards— but we really want that world music number one, more than anything else. We have to keep working. It’s not easy, but, you know…”
While some had criticized her debut album Alpha for its blend of dancehall, pop-rap, and R&B, Major argued that Shenseea’s incorporation of her culture with other genres makes for a balanced body of work.
“She’s a very flexible artist, you know? So, I don’t think it’s ‘experimenting.’ She’s living her dream and wants to do various music,” he said. “She loves every genre; from gospel, to western…so, she’s one of the persons that could just do music. She doesn’t care about the genre, she just does music. Once she listens to a rhythm and it speaks to her, she delivers.”
Alpha, released in 2022, had earned the No. 2 spot on the Billboard Reggae Albums chart with her debut album Alpha back in 2022. The project recorded 4,900 units during its first week of release and went on to tally over 63,000 units by the end of 2022, making it the second best-selling Jamaican album released that year.
Earlier this year, Shenseea lamented that she’s been getting “mad hate” over her career choices but was choosing to remain positive. In those difficult moments, Major said he reminds her of her journey to stardom to help her cope with the pressures of the industry.
“I say, ‘listen, look at yourself eight years ago and look at yourself now. You were just a normal promo girl that nobody was looking for. Now you’re an international artist that is representing your country and family at the finest level,'” he told DancehallMag.
“She’s one of those people who never stops. If she do 100, she feels like she can do 110. But, we have to let her know that ‘listen, you’re doing so great. You were put in the world for this purpose, so just keep enjoying it, and keep moving forward and have fun with it.”
