Dancehall icon Super Cat has declared that he does not like, nor wears “tight pants”.

Recently, the Trash and Ready deejay shared a video on his Instagram page of himself at a gentlemen’s attire boutique, clad in a suit, while complaining to his stylist that he did not like the pair of black trousers that he had been given to try on.

“I aint saying the outfit is not nice. My problem is I don’t wear these kinda pants,” Super Cat protested.

However, despite his impassioned plea, his stylist contended that the pants provided him with a youthful essence.

“Look at me. You look a hundred years younger,” he told the 60-year-old Super Cat, to which the deejay replied, “Yeah, I know,” but continued to protest.

“You look great man,” his stylist continued to urge. “I didnt think this was possible he quipped,” before bursting out in a fit of laughter, with Super Cat grinning from ear to ear.

Super Cat titled the post “Stylist Styleless No Tight Pants!” asserting that he had rejected the trousers and would stick to the baggy pants that have been his characteristic mode of dress for many years.

The video triggered a series of comments from his fans, including one man, who himself set off a series of amusing remarks when he quipped: “Time now, Cat, stop wear dem baggy Steve Harvey suit”.

“😂😂They don’t realize that style makes you look older,” one woman said in response, while a man added: “Is true. Even me had to stop wear baggy jeans cos some of my bredrin done brush me bout the big jeans”.

“True dat, but Cat been wearing that style from he touch stage,” keithsahdeo stated in agreement.

However, one man urged the Don Dadda to continue wearing the type of suits to which he was accustomed.

“Don’t stop now it’s just coming back in fashion. In suits and street wear,” he said.

Numerous women who deemed Super Cat “cute”, also commented on the post.

😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍”Jah kno star apache mi nah lie come like GOD jus sneeze an bless yu wid bare good looks,” one woman said.

Another added: “Mon said no tight pants to de ting. Wild Apache has spoke. Still fine😍😍😍”.

“Look at that smile man🔥🔥🔥🔥. Super Cat yuh look damn good. Easy and guh mash up di place🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥. Nuff love. And try come a yaad come hole a show,” another stated.

Super Cat, born William Maragh, emerged as a prominent figure in the Dancehall scene during the 1980s and into the mid-1990s.

The deejay, who has his roots in Cockburn Pen in Kingston’s inner-city, was one of Dancehall’s pioneering “rude bwoys.” He achieved mainstream recognition early on, forging connections with notable Hip-Hop figures such as Heavy D, P. Diddy, and Biggie Smalls.

In the early 1990s, Super Cat migrated from Jamaica to New York, where he inked a deal with Columbia Records. His debut album Don Dada hit shelves in 1992, followed by The Struggle Continues in 1995. Notably, he featured on the remix of Kriss Kross’s smash hit Jump, back in 1992.

Super Cat’s musical journey began with the 1986 hit Boops, which satirized sugar daddies, following which the term became ingrained in the Jamaican lexicon.

Furthermore, in his 1985 track Trash and Ready, he notably elevated Clarks shoes to a coveted fashion item and symbol of Jamaican masculinity.
Although Super Cat’s presence waned in the late 1990s, punctuated by sporadic appearances, he signaled a comeback in September 2020 with the release of Push Time, a collaboration with artist and producer Salaam Remi.

This revival brought joy to long-standing Dancehall enthusiasts, especially those in New York.

In February 2022, the Vineyard Party artist and 20 other Reggae and Dancehall acts were showcased on the global stage at DJ Cassidy’s special edition of Pass The Mic: BET Afterparty 2022, following the 53rd NAACP Image Awards. Among the other luminaries were Patra, Chaka Demus and Pliers, Nadine Sutherland, Terror Fabulous and Sister Nancy.

Super Cat is scheduled to perform at the Reggae Love Fest on Saturday, June 15, at the Barclays Centre in Brooklyn, alongside his compatriots Shabba Ranks, Capleton, and Cutty Ranks, among others.
