45 Artists For Capleton’s Star-Studded “A St. Mary Mi Come From”

Reggae legend Max Romeo is among a stellar lineup of 45 artistes billed for Capleton’s charity show, A St. Mary Mi Come From, which makes its grand return at the Gray’s Inn Sports Complex in Annotto Bay, St. Mary on August 5, after a five-year hiatus.

The blend of veteran and emerging artists on this year’s lineup was officially announced on Monday.

The other 44 artists who will be featured span the Dancehall generation that ruled the 1990s and early 2000s, among them Beenie Man, Busy Signal, Spragga Benz, Frisco Kid, Lady G, Louie Culture and Capleton himself, as well as their dominant new generation counterparts, namely Skeng, Jahshii, Chronic Law, Teejay, Valiant, Jah Vinci, and Pablo YG, all performing under the theme “Capleton and Friends.

“We have to engage our youth. They are the big spenders. We have to bring these acts on stage and present these acts so that young people will come out to the show,” a spokeswoman for the event explained at the launch of the event in Kingston.

Reggae singers Turbulence, Richie Spice, I-Octane, Cecile, Pashon Minott, Romain Virgo, Bushman, Iwayne, Fanton Mojah, Warrior King, Iba Mahr, Bugle, Jahmiel, Droop Lion, Lutan Fyah, Tony Curtis and Admiral Tibet, are also among the dynamic mix, which also includes Munga Honourable and Jigsy King.

The lineup is completed by SSee Foster E.Q., Jah Thunder, Ffurious, Black Don, Alex A Game, Wesrok, 10 Tik, Accid, Gabbidon, Kei Dubb, Chris Malachi, Fiyaneer, Kevoy Clarke, Military Man, Jah Gideon, Angie Angel, Michael Fabulous, Sir Justice, Little Robert, Bongo Herman, Prezidential and Utterance.

Launched in 2000, A St. Mary Mi Come From is Capleton’s heartfelt initiative to give back to the parish of his birth. Over the years, it has played a crucial role in nurturing young talent and providing a platform for upcoming artistes to shine.

During the event’s launch, Capleton said it was imperative that all the artists billed for the show come with their A-game, especially since it was of national and international interest.

“Everyone has to stay on top of their game. This is a platform where the global watch out is a show that people love. It gains great admiration right across the globe,” the Islaington native had said.

Known for attracting nearly 15,000 attendees each year, the show was a significant highlight on the entertainment calendar prior to taking a break.

According to Capleton, proceeds from the show will be directed towards selected charitable projects across the island, with a special focus on St. Mary.

“We give back to schools, we give back to hospitals, we give back to community centers, we give back to reform centers, we give back to people with disabilities, we give back to mothers in crisis, and we give to surrounding parishes, to St. Anne, St. Catherine, even St. Andrew,” he said.

“It’s a charity event; it’s a family event. It’s an event about love; it’s about giving back. It’s for a just cause and it’s something that is meaningful. I don’t give for clout or validation. I give with love and I give from my heart,” he explained.

The announcement of this year’s lineup of already-established stars gracing the stage with promising artists has left fans excited.
