D’Angel Wants Talk Show Success Like Oprah Winfrey
Dancehall artist D’Angel is no stranger to adopting new hats, and she’s eyeing talk show host next.
“I’m hoping that one day I’ll have my own talk show like Oprah – that’s the direction that I want to go…” the Time Now artist recently shared on the Entertainment Report podcast.
Media mogul Oprah Winfrey revolutionized the talk show space with her award-winning eponymous show, which ran for 25 years.
For her platform, D’Angel envisions its premiere coinciding with the publishing of her long-advertised memoir, which she teased will include her experience with domestic violence.
“I’m speaking it into the universe because I can relate to a lot of things and I want it (the show) to gear towards battered women and how to find a place after, and how to get out before it’s too late,” she said. ”So, I want it to be centered around domestic violence against women…cause I’m very passionate about it and my book is going to speak to that too, so that’s something I really would love to do in the future.”
The autobiography was slated for publication in 2021, but the Stronger singer said there’s no rush when it comes to divine timing and unveiling the intimate details of her life.
Fans have already gotten a sneak peak at how D’Angel would be as a talk show host, thanks to her Live at 5 program with fellow artist Razor B. The online platform blossomed from a spate of domestic violence and child abuse cases in 2023, and served as a safe space for victims to share their stories and seek advice from the entertainers.
D’Angel and Razor B also visited several schools to speak about violence-prevention and anti-bullying, but the show disintegrated as they felt discouraged by the lack of support from government bodies.
Talk show and book aside, D’Angel is focused on actualising her “highest self” as she celebrates 20 years in the music industry.
“I’m not there, trust me,” she reflected. “My journey has been more fight than success… In all of that, I still manage to overcome, still manage to find hit songs…but you still don’t get that place where I’m going out in the world and showcasing my talent, performing for 1000s of people.”
She continued, “Tina Turner performed for 250,000 people – the first-ever female – and I want to top that. So, that’s my dream – to perform for a sea of people…and I haven’t gotten there as yet. I’m working towards it. Not D’Angel and six, seven, eight artists. Just D’Angel in concert.”
