Sikka Rymes Celebrates Release From Prison

Sikka Rymes

Dancehall artist Sikka Rymes is celebrating his release from a British prison.

The Loyalty artist, known as the vice president of Vybz Kartel’s Gaza Empire, has been quite active on social media since last week, showing snippets of his freedom waltz with fans.

“The untouchable return,” the deejay posted in his Instagram Story on Thursday. “Who di f**k fi stop this. God and time.”

The post was backgrounded by Corrupt, a new track produced by his Sikk Records label and Kris Sonic. The visuals premiered last Monday, showcasing a cozy depiction of his life behind bars. The lyrics, on the other hand, called for his freedom and exalted his will to win despite detractors.

Getting back to music has been a high priority for the artist, who shared another video of a club performance on the same day of his release.

“GB di Gaza VP deh yah,” his caption read. “First night after being release. Watch di love.”

Superman was his song of choice, which chronicles his cynicism towards love and women after a spate of betrayal and deceit. His caption quoted the lyrics, “Mi mada did warn mi about di b*tch dem but mi never hear.”

Coincidentally, it was a woman who played a hand in his incarceration.

Last August, his ex-wife, Shy, claimed he was in a UK prison for a domestic abuse conviction.

“My soon to be ex-husband @sikka_rymes got sentenced to 3.5 years in prison today for domestic abuse,” she wrote in one of several Instagram stories. “Let this be a lesson to all you Jamaicans who think you can come over here and get away with the same f**keries you keep up back home.”

News that the I’m Only Human deejay tied the knot surfaced in 2022, but he declined to confirm the report. Rymes subsequently referred to Shy – a scriptwriter and property developer – as his wife in a birthday post.

At the time, some netizens questioned if it was a publicity stunt for a musical project. This answered itself with Rymes’ sudden withdrawal from the public eye until May.

In his return to social media, the entertainer, whose given name is Javian Chambers, was sitting in what seemed to be a prison cell, with his signature twists replaced with a short afro, and his light skin now quite pigmented. Besides comments expressing shock over his new appearance, several users questioned if his absence was due to incarceration, but he didn’t confirm that until this month.

Rymes is currently working on the music video for an upcoming track titled Buss Case, also co-produced by Kris Sonic. It is slated for release on July 29, his birthday.
