Brick & Lace Returns With New Song ‘Proof’
Jamaican duo Brick & Lace are back with a catchy track titled Proof which they hope will make a statement. Released on July 23, the single was produced by Jamaican-born, Miami-based producer The Kemist, who is also the son of Marcia Griffiths.
“We hope this song can be the spark to tell the world that their favourite Jamaican sisters are back with a new flavour. But, ultimately in this game, you just want the song to get out there and reach as many ppl as it’s supposed to,” Nyanda, one-half of the duo, told DancehallMag.
Nyanda further explained that the groovy track emerged organically, and that in no time, they had created something really special.
“It’s a more grown and sexy vibe. We didn’t force it or pre-determine the genre before going in. The track just came on and the light bulbs went off. It’s really about healing in relationships and being open and vulnerable to love,” she said.
Many music lovers know the sisters for their 2007 hit Love Is Wicked from their debut album of the same name. It was released via international recording artist-producer Akon’s KonLive Distribution label.
They followed up with Bad To Di Bone in 2009.
Nyanda added that even when she and her sister decided to explore entrepreneurial ventures, as well as balance motherhood with their career, their diehard fans have inspired them to continue making music.
“I honestly think we made a classic first album entitled Love is Wicked just like the title track and the fans know us for putting out quality music. But, mostly the fans have kept us in their hearts and visa versa,” she said.
Her sister Nailah has also launched a shapewear line called Vlair.
While Nyanda noted that the duo is always open to collaborations with other artists, she said they prefer those that happen organically.
In the meantime, she’s encouraging emerging female acts to establish a support system and be progressive in order to be successful.
“Work on ur craft and use social media to get your music out there, as well as any other promotional outlets. Find a good team of people who share in the vision to work with you such as writers, producers etcetera. Belief goes a long way, don’t give up. Listen to your intuition and don’t be afraid to be different,” she said.
