By her own admission, Ishawna doesn’t keep abreast of every new artist that hits the scene, but the City Girls’ JT has caught her attention.

The popular rap duo decided to take a break this year, paving the way for JT’s solo ventures with tracks like Sideways and Okay. Her debut solo mixtape City Cinderella premiered this month, and Ishawna deems it the universe’s sign that they should work together since she calls herself ‘Dancehall Cinderella’.

“Mi woulda do a song with JT,” she said during a recent episode of The Truth is Real podcast. “Memba me seh mi a Dancehall Cinderella enuh and the lady seh she a City Cinderella, so a seal it seal. Honestly, I’d love to do a song with JT cause I feel like she’s a bad b*tch.”

She further posited that they share a similar fashion style, highlighted by host Walk and Talk.

Ishawna’s catalogue has primarily seen her collaborations be male-featured, with the biggest star being Ed Sheeran for their 2023 track Brace It.

The Equal Rights artist is currently working on an EP and her debut album, and spoke about other acts she would be open to working with.

“Being Ishawna and being a perfectionist, it’s the hardest thing,” she said regarding the double projects. “Locally, Valiant; I love him, and you know me have a song with Pablo YG (Business) already – mi like him. D’Yani, of course. Internationally, Ed Sheeran, of course, or Riri or Beyoncé. You know we haffi dream big.”

Her eclectic selection is further reflective of her interest in different genres, with Ishawna sharing that she would even record a reggae album.

“I love music overall, and the thing is, my fanbase, they don’t even hear half of the stuff dem that I can do,” she said. “I literally don’t do half of the things that I would love to do yet, I’m barely scratching the surface to be honest.”

While she’s open-minded with genres and artists, some things are standard like producer Skatta Burrell overseeing her projects. The two started working together during her brief stint at Downsound Records.

“I work with Skatta straight, that’s my producer for life,” she said. “I work with other producers, you know, dem send rhythms and stuff like that. I’m open to working with a lot of producers… I work with a lot of people.”

Her last solo single, Billionaire, was produced by Big Win Music and released in September.
