Sheba Says She’s Open To Celebration For Vybz Kartel Following His Release
Former Portmore Empire member Sheba says she is open to participating in a welcome home celebration for Vybz Kartel following his release from prison this afternoon.
Sheba, who said she had purposely put her phone on silent and went to sleep prior to the Court of Appeal ruling, says she is ready for anything concerning her ‘boss.’
“I know that I’m open to it. I cannot really speak on their feelings. I know another member who is always open to anything and that’s Gaza Indu ‘cause me and her really kinda closer than anybody else. I know anything, when it comes on to him, she’s up for it,” Sheba told DancehallMag shortly after the ruling.
Formerly known as Gaza Sheba, the entertainer is best known for her collaborations with the Worl’ Boss, including You and Him Deh , Like Christmas , Gal a Weh Me Do You , and Gaza Man Mi Name.
She was over the moon about today’s ruling, though it was unexpected, according to her, given the years of disappointment Kartel fans have endured.
“The first couple of years were really hard for me ‘cause you had hope at that time, and then at one point you had to accept reality that they were really punishing this man then you just tek time start have doubts and lose hope,” she said.
Sheba added: “It kinda got easier as the years went on, but last year with the whole appeal thing, there was a little ray of hope right there. Then, yuh think him free now and dem find a different story… one minute you get your hopes up only to have it stepped on again. That’s why now I’m having a hard time accepting that it’s real.”
Sheba, whose real name is Tasheba Campbell, hails from Spanish Town but is now based in Florida. She has been trying to stake her claim in the music business as a solo artist since the incarceration of Gaza strongman Vybz Kartel in 2014 and the subsequent collapse of the Gaza Empire.
She admitted that Vybz Kartel’s incarceration caused her blood pressure to fluctuate, and she went into a season of depression.
The singjay also said that the formerly incarcerated deejay rejected all her efforts to visit him from behind bars for personal reasons.
“I tried to visit him a few times. I didn’t publicize it because I don’t think me trying to see a person that I was close to needs to be publicized. Everybody do it and put it out there because I think they’re doing it for clout. I did visit him a few times, but he was the one who declined the visits because he’s like, I don’t want you guys to see me at this state. Mi want the memories that you have of me to be the last thing inna yuh head,” she told DancehallMag.
The Portmore Empire featured artists like Blak Ryno, Popcaan, Jah Vinci, Vanessa Bling, Gaza Kim, Gaza Indu, Lisa Hyper, Deva Bratt, Merrital Family, Shawn Storm and producer Notnice. The group led Dancehall in the 2010s, but faded with claims of an abusive work environment and disloyalty among members.
