Retired West Indies all-rounder turned Dancehall artist Marlon “Icon” Samuels revealed that he had suggested to Vybz Kartel that they consider flying out of Jamaica on a private jet to seek medical treatment, seemingly for the Life We Living artist’s Graves Disease.

Yesterday, Kartel shared still images and videos of himself, his fiancée Sidem, and his attorney, Isat Buchanan, boarding a jet and in flight, purportedly en route to St Vincent and the Grenadines.

Curiosity arose among his fans elsewhere on Instagram about the identity of a man clad in a trench coat, sunshades and wide-brimmed had, who was seen exchanging pleasantries with Kartel, Sidem, and their crew.

Shortly after, Samuels posted images on his Instagram stories, which revealed that he was the previously unidentified man.

The first video he shared featured himself and Kartel laughing, chatting, and playfully interacting at the entrance to the jet, which cricketing fans speculated belonged to the former Windies batsman.

“A Mile High Logistics… mi deh yah wid di great Marlon Samuels, yuh seet. Him a di artiste an me a di cricketer. Yuh know seh tings get wickeda,” Kartel rhymed.

It was the caption penned by Samuels, who also goes by the name Sextillion, which revealed the reason behind Kartel’s departure from Jamaica.

“Sextillion call the World Boss and seh ‘lets leave Jamaica go see some doctor’. General seh ‘jet setting’. Icon say ‘sure let’s roll’,” Samuels wrote.

Samuels also shared videos taken from what he said was a bulletproof Escalade that appears to belong to him, pointing out that it is one of only two such vehicles in Jamaica.

“Sextillion bulletproof pickup; we sure can’t get stick up… Sextillion bulletproof pickup… book with us. only two bulletproof escalade in Jamaica,” he noted on two other posts.

During his international cricket career, the now 43-year-old Samuels played 71 Test matches, 207 One Day Internationals, and 67 T20 Internationals for the West Indies. He accumulated 17 centuries, scored 11,134 runs, and claimed 152 wickets.

The Kingston College old boy was also the top scorer in the T20 World Cup finals of 2012 and 2016.

In Dancehall, “The Icon” is well-known for his extended social media feuds and bantering with fellow artists.

Among these was a notorious online dispute with selector Foota Hype in 2018, which ignited after Samuels claimed that the Calabar High School old boy was “carrying feelings” over his appearance in his ex-girlfriend Ishawna’s Insta Boy music video. This led to the release of Samuels’ taunting track, Spoon Head, aimed at Foota.

Samuels also mocked Usain Bolt when the track icon released his single Living the Dream, reposting a video of a local comedian ridiculing the song and dismissing it as “foolishness.”

Additionally, Samuels engaged in verbal clashes with Mr. Vegas, mercilessly lampooning the Heads High singer after he was forcibly removed from a church by Christians under the instruction of Pastor Gino Jennings.

In 2018, he had a public fallout with his ex, Yanique ‘Curvy Diva,’ and in 2019, he clashed with up-and-coming singer Ikon and Devin di Dakta’s manager, Shelly-Ann Curran, over the artiste’s single “New Flame.”

This conflict arose after Devin teased Samuels with lyrics suggesting, “nuh matter how me love di gyal dem, none cyah mad me cuz me nuh Marlon Samuels,” referencing the batsman’s rift with the Curvy Diva.
