Popcaan, Ryan Gosling Look-Alike Comparisons Resurface On Twitter
Dancehall artist Popcaan’s “striking resemblance” to Canadian actor Ryan Gosling, who was named one of People Magazine’s 50 Hottest Bachelors in 2004, is once again a hot topic on social media, particularly on Twitter and The Shade Room.
The Shade Room recently shared a list of celebrity look-alikes, including Popcaan alongside the Hollywood star Ryan Gosling, best known for his roles in Crazy, Stupid, Love, and The Notebook.
The list also featured other celebrities such as Beyoncé, Offset, and Aretha Franklin.
The post, which compiled several comparisons from Twitter, was captioned, “Chileee! Y’all cuttin up bad on this celebs look alike thread on X.”
The comparison thread has reignited discussions, with many users noting the uncanny resemblance between Popcaan and Gosling, focusing on their facial features despite their different races.
The Shade Room post, made in the wee hours of Sunday morning, caught the attention of several amused Jamaicans and others who shared their reactions.
“A trouble when Popcaan Pop up dis mawning m si dis enuh😂😂😂 but cuh di yiy dem fi true,” one man commented, while another user added: “Ryan Gosling and Popcaan has me in shambles.
A third woman remarked: “Plump up Ryan’s lips and it’s scarily on point!! while another man declared: “They the black & white versions of themselves”.
This isn’t the first time Popcaan has been compared to Gosling. In January last year, Twitter users juxtaposed portrait photos of the two, marveling at the similarities. Those discussions, too, centered on their facial features rather than their racial differences.
Gosling, who was born Ryan Thomas Gosling on November 12, 1980, in London, Ontario, Canada, has had a distinguished acting career. According to his biography, he first gained attention as a child performer on The Mickey Mouse Club and later established himself as one of the finest actors of his generation with critically acclaimed roles in films like The Believer (2001), Half Nelson (2006), and La La Land (2016).
Over on Twitter, the jokes kept coming.
One man humorously suggested that Popcaan and Gosling, could actually be the same person, noting: “Now that you mentioned it, I’ve never seen Popcaan in the same place as Ryan.”
Some women on the platform could not help but gush over the two superstars.
“They both look masculine enough—the kind of men I’d want to make babies with in the future,” one woman commented.
“This might be the most unexpected comparison of the year, and I’m here for it,” another user added.
“I just heard Ryan Gosling say yaaaaaoooo.. Unruly in my head,” one man joked, while another added, “Y’all ain’t know Ryan Gosling was Jamaican? Heard his family lives over the hills in Havendale.”
Interestingly, Gosling has a connection to Jamaica, having vacationed at the internationally-acclaimed Round Hill Hotel in Hanover in 2011.
