Sha’Carri Richardson Turns To ‘Fearless’ Vybz Kartel Lyrics Ahead Of High-Stakes 100m Rematch
American track star Sha’Carri Richardson has turned to Dancehall artist Vybz Kartel for pre-race motivation ahead of a high-stakes rematch against Olympic champion Julien Alfred at the Zurich Diamond League this Thursday.
On Monday, Richardson took to Instagram, where she commands an audience of 4.3 million followers, to share a video of herself vibing to Kartel’s 2010 hit Neva Scared (also known as Nuh Fraid A Nobody).
In the video posted from a car, the sprinter is seen lip-syncing to the defiant lyrics, “We nuh fraid a nobody.”
The parallels between Kartel’s unapologetic lyrics and Richardson’s own bold persona are hard to ignore.
Many viewed the Paris Olympics as her opportunity for redemption following a suspension that kept her out of the Tokyo Games, but her performance yielded mixed results. While she contributed to a gold medal in the 4x100m relay, the individual 100m race—her signature event—saw her claim silver behind St. Lucia’s Julien Alfred, who blazed to victory in 10.72 seconds.
The 22-year-old from St. Lucia not only bested Richardson in the 100m but also claimed silver in the 200m, establishing herself as a multi-event threat on the global stage.
“The women’s 100m featuring Alfred and Richardson headlines a Diamond League meet in Zurich, Switzerland, live on Peacock on Thursday from 2-4 p.m. ET,” NBC Sports reported.
Will the fearless energy of Neva Scared translate into victory on the track?
Released on Rvssian’s Nuh Fear riddim in 2010, the song quickly became an anthem of fearlessness and self-assurance.
It also appeared on Kartel’s Pon Di Gaza 2.0 album.
The riddim also featured other notable tracks like Blak Ryno’s big hit Badmind, Jah Vinci’s Fren Dem from Me Foe, Popcaan’s Hustle Food, and Aidonia’s Evil Head.
