Kush Riley, Brother Of Tarrus Riley, Dead At 38
Jamaican artist Ryan Riley, known to many as Kush Riley and a son of legendary singer Jimmy Riley, has passed away at age 38.
His older brother, Reggae star Tarrus Riley, shared the heartbreaking news on Instagram Tuesday, expressing his grief.
“Rest Ez ๐Ryan Only Jah Knws๐,” Tarrus wrote. “My Younger Brother Ryan that many of u know and Love worldwide has made his Transition and is no longer here with us in the Flesh. Sleepless Days n Restless Nights Trying to make it make sense …๐.”
Tarrus remembered his brother as a “warrior” who lived life on his own terms, honoring him as a father, son, brother, and friend. โHe lived the life he loved n loved the life he lived,โ Tarrus shared, calling him โ1 of 1โ and asking for divine guidance to grant his brother “perfect peace.”
No cause of death has been disclosed.
While his career didnโt reach the heights of his father or brother, Kush was determined to carve his own path in the industry. “I want to be known as Kush Riley. I want to build my own brand,โ he told the Gleaner in a 2019 interview.
โOf course, I want to build on my fatherโs legacy but I want to do it my way. I wonโt let the expectations of people dictate how I do this music thing. I understand myself and Iโm delivering how I know I should because I know who I am and what I have to offer.โ
Throughout his journey, Kush stayed focused on promoting his own sound and positive message. His music, including tracks like Old Fashion, What A Body, News and Bring It, can be found on Spotify and YouTube.
As news of his passing spread, the reggae and dancehall community poured in their condolences.
Konshens expressed, “Rip mi bad fam Kush. Way too soon but what tomorrow may bring nobody donโt know.”
Wayne Wonder sent love to the Riley family, saying, “Condolences to you my bro and the entire family ๐๐พ๐๐พ! Sleep Easy Youth ๐๏ธ ๐๏ธ๐๏ธ”
Popcaan, Bounty Killer, Romain Virgo, and Gramps Morgan also shared their support.
In 2021, Tarrus Riley mourned the loss of his sister, Jaffa Joy Riley Douglas. His father, Jimmy Riley, passed away in 2016.
