Chronixx Earns First Gold Certification In The US For ‘Eternal Light’ With Free Nationals
Reggae star Chronixx has achieved a significant career milestone as Eternal Light, his collaboration with R&B band Free Nationals, has been certified Gold in the United States nearly five years after its release. This marks the Jamaican singer’s first Gold certification in the American market.
The Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) awarded the certification on Wednesday, September 18, after the song reached the equivalent of 500,000 units sold in the US through a combination of sales and streaming.
Free Nationals, known for their work as Anderson .Paak’s backing band, consists of José Ríos (lead guitar), Ron “T.Nava” Avant (keyboards, lead vocals), Kelsey Gonzalez (bass guitar), and Callum Connor (drums).
When the song was first released in October 2019, Connor had praised Chronixx’s contribution.
“It was a pleasure to work with Chronixx on ‘Eternal Light’,” he said. “The melody ideas he comes up with are unlike anyone else. They are totally different from the usual R&B pop writers we work with.”
In Eternal Light, Chronixx delivers soulful vocals that perfectly complement the Free Nationals’ instrumentation. His lyrics speak of positivity, love, and good vibrations, with lines like “No bad vibes can’t stop this good vibration, yeah / That’s the positive vibes we keep creating, yeah.” The song’s chorus, “Forever shining this light / We keep it blazin’, yeah,” encapsulates its uplifting message.
Co-written by Chronixx and Avant, Eternal Light was the fourth single from the band’s self-titled debut album. It joins two other Gold-certified singles from the same project: Time (featuring Mac Miller and Kali Uchis) and Beauty and Essex (featuring Daniel Caesar and Unknown Mortal Orchestra).
The album was nominated for Best Progressive R&B Album in 2021.
