Shenseea Samples TLC’s ‘No Scrubs’ In New Song ‘Dating Szn (Options)’

Jamaican artist Shenseea released a new song, “Dating Szn (Options),” on Friday. Her new song draws inspiration from TLC’s iconic 1999 hit No Scrubs, cleverly sampling the recognizable beat originally produced by She’kspere.

In Dating Szn, Shenseea explores themes of dating multiple people simultaneously and weighing one’s options before committing to a relationship.

The track debuted on YouTube with a music video directed by Sam Brave and Chris Moreno.

“This song is about to be the ladies anthem for the rest of the year leading into the summer of next year,” commented one fan. Another added: “Some people don’t understand what Dating is so Teach them in the music…hope they get it now! Peace and love to all.”

No Scrubs, released in February 1999, was a massive success for TLC, topping the Billboard Hot 100 for several weeks and earning the group a Grammy Award for Best R&B Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal.

It’s currently certified 5X Platinum in the US (5 million units) and 4X Platinum in the UK (2.4 million units).

No Scrubs has been previously sampled in over 80 songs, including Ed Sheeran’s Shape Of You (2017), Chief Keef’s Can You Be My Friend (2017), Brent Faiyaz’s Tim’s Intro (2023), and Avicii and Aloe Blacc’s SOS (2019).

Dating Szn (Options) follows Shenseea’s sophomore album, Never Gets Late Here, which was released earlier this year. It featured songs such as Hit & Run with Masicka, Die For You, Flava with Coi Leray, Work Me Out with Wizkid and Neva Neva.
