Bounty Killer’s Plea As He Donates $10K To Lt. Stitchie: ‘We Can Help Each Other’
Dancehall star Bounty Killer has made an earnest plea to members of the music industry to band together to assist each other more outside of music and work.
The request was made yesterday while he handed over the US $10,000 cheque that his ‘The Bounty Foundation’ and Shaggy partnered on to help Lt. Stitchie, who was left unresponsive after suffering a brain hemorrhage. During the handover ceremony with Richie Stephens and Lt. Stitchie’s wife, Sophia Laing, Bounty called on musicians and industry members to unite for their compatriots.
“We all see that Stitchie needs some help, so I am pleading to the music industry insiders more than the general public, cause this is a problem in the music industry, we don’t come together for each other and that’s very saddening to me,” he said. “A whole heap a wi rich as musician, a nuh me alone, anuh Richie alone, di whole a wi rich inna music, and some richer financially than others, we can help each other, mek we do the chain link.”
The event was organized in collaboration with Bounty Killer’s manager, Paul ‘Bankey’ Giscombe, at PAJ Limited on Constant Spring Road in Kingston.
Sophia Laing expressed her appreciation for the donation and revealed that there is hope for Stitchie as his condition has improved.
“We give God thanks for what He’s doing in his life because I know a lot of ugly rumours are going on out there and I want to dispel every single one of them right now, [because] Stitchie is alive and well and he’s recovering greatly. He’s hearing, his eyes are open, he responds to voices that he knows and he is on the road to recovery,” she said.
Cleveland Laing, professionally known as Lieutenant Stitchie, has been challenged with health issues for the past few years and has continued to work despite his declining health. A press release earlier this year explained that “his recent medical crisis has significantly worsened his condition, and after receiving all possible treatment in the hospital, he must now be moved to a long-term care facility.”
A GoFundMe account has been established to target $100,000 US to help cover his treatment costs.
Stitchie is hailed as a lyrical powerhouse and is known for his quick-witted and precocious deejaying style. His hit songs include Wear Yuh Size, Natty Dread, Shopping, Broad Hips, and Night & Day, amongst many other Dancehall and Gospel songs.
