Alborosie’s Reggae anthem Kingston Town surpassed 100 million plays on Spotify on Monday, marking the Italian-Jamaican singer’s first track to achieve this milestone on the platform.

“I’m very happy about Kingston Town reaching this milestone,” Alborosie, whose real name is Alberto D’Ascola, told DancehallMag

“I work hard alongside my team, alongside my musicians to travel the world and spread the message.  I’m very blessed and I want to say thanks to everybody. So, we keeping going, keep pushing until we reach 200 million (laughs).”

Kingston Town first appeared on Alborosie’s self-produced debut album, Soul Pirate, released in 2008.

The track offers a raw portrayal of life in Jamaica’s capital city, exploring various urban challenges, from poverty and crime to social inequality and aggressive law enforcement. His use of local slang and vivid imagery effectively transports listeners to Kingston’s bustling streets. Musically, the song blends traditional reggae with modern production techniques, sampling the Scientist dub track When I Love .

The song’s official music video has over 87 million views on YouTube.

Kingston Town was just one of several standout tracks from the Soul Pirate album, which also featured hits like Still Blazing, Herbalist, Rastafari Anthem, and a remake of Natural Mystic with Ky-Mani Marley.

Alborosie’s success continued with his second album, Escape from Babylon, released in the summer of 2009.

His talent and contribution to reggae music were further recognized when he won the MOBO Award for Best Reggae Act in 2011.

His other albums include Destiny (2023), For The Culture (2021),
Unbreakable: Alborosie Meets the Wailers United (2018), Freedom & Fyah (2016), and Sound The System (2013).
