Sean Paul, Keyshia Cole’s ‘(When You Gonna) Give It Up To Me’ Certified Silver In The UK
Sean Paul’s 2006 hit (When You Gonna) Give It Up To Me, featuring American singer Keyshia Cole, has just been certified Silver in the United Kingdom.
According to the British Phonographic Industry (BPI), the song was issued the Brit Certified Silver Award on Friday (November 22) after it sold over 200,000 units in the UK, as measured by The Official Charts Company.
This marks another milestone for Sean Paul’s The Trinity era, which produced multiple hits and showcased his ability to merge Dancehall with mainstream pop.
(When You Gonna) Give It Up To Me was produced by Donovan ‘Don Corleon’ Bennett, who collaborated with Paul on several other songs in the 2000s, including Never Gonna Be The Same (2006), Break It Off (2006) with Rihanna, Eye Deh A Mi Knee (2005), and One Life (2007). The co-writers included Bennett, Jason Henriques and Nigel Staff.
While the original version was a solo effort, the decision to release the Keyshia Cole collaboration as a single aligned with the song’s inclusion on the soundtrack for the 2006 film Step Up.
The official music video, directed by Little X, added to the song’s popularity with its high-energy visuals, which currently have over 377 million views on YouTube. Set in a vibrant gym, the video captures Sean Paul and Keyshia Cole showcasing their moves alongside their respective dancers. Midway through, fans of the Step Up film were treated to cameos by its stars, Channing Tatum, Jenna Dewan, and Drew Sidora, seamlessly tying the video to the movie’s dance theme.
(When You Gonna) Give It Up To Me spent 22 weeks on the Billboard Hot 100, peaking at No. 3. In the UK, it spent 8 weeks on the Official Singles Chart where it peaked at No. 31.
It’s currently certified Gold in Canada after selling over 40,000 units.
Sean Paul’s The Trinity also featured Temperature, which is currently 3X Platinum in the US and 2X Platinum in the UK, and We Be Burnin’ (Platinum in the US and Gold in the UK).
The album itself is currently certified 2X Platinum in the US (2 million units) and Platinum in the UK (300,000 units).
