YG Marley’s ‘Praise Jah In The Moonlight’ Certified Platinum In US
YG Marley’s debut single, Praise Jah In The Moonlight, has been certified Platinum in the United States.
The Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) certified the song Platinum on Friday (November 22) after it reached the sales and streaming equivalent of one million units sold in the US.
The track, independently released, first gained traction after Marley, 22, performed it during his mother Lauryn Hill’s Miseducation of Lauryn Hill tour late last year. It incorporates a sample from his grandfather Bob Marley’s 1978 track Crisis and credits Hill as a co-writer and co-producer.
Since then, it has seen significant global success, reaching No. 39 on the Billboard Hot 100, No. 20 on the Billboard Canadian Hot 100, No. 5 on the UK Singles Chart, No. 1 on the New Zealand Songs Chart, No. 11 on the Billboard Global 200, and the top 20 in Australia, Canada, Ireland, Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Sweden, and Switzerland.
It is currently certified Gold in the United Kingdom (400,000 units), Platinum in Canada (80,000 units), Gold in France (100,000 units), and Platinum in New Zealand (30,000 units).
The song has picked up over 379 million plays on Spotify, while the official music video, released in April this year, currently has almost 28 million views on YouTube.
Marley has followed up his debut single with Survival, which drew inspiration and lyrics from the elder Marley’s iconic 1979 album of the same name.
He has also collaborated with Davido on the single Awuke, and Chole on the song Never Let You Go.
