Govana Brings A Lyrical And Visual Treat With ‘Convo’
Upon the heels of his already well-reviewed album, titled ‘Humans and Monsters are Not The Same’, dancehall artiste Govana has surprised his fans with another hit. Released last night is the 4th Genna deejay’s new single, ‘Convo’ which is a lyrical ‘CONVO’-sation that puts into context events leading to cheating-exposed and its fallout. Watch the new video below.
Govana whose real name is Romeo Nelson, released his first album – HUMANTS this January 2020, and as is expected he has been getting much ‘forward’ from his fans for his usual rollicking creativity and lyrical entertainment. Convo is not just a testament to his fresh style, but also his ability to connect with the people.
Though not listed as one of the Top 20 Artiste to Watch for 2020’ in one online news feed, Govana during 2019 produced a slew of hits and several successful collaborations. His works included, Gal Clown, Thief, Champ, and Better Than That featuring Jada Kingdom. Govana was also featured on Koffee‘s ‘Rapture’. Perhaps rather than be watched, the 4th Genna will be watching us for lyrical inspiration this year.
In what seems to be a commentary to the recent interrelationship conflicts reported in the news, the Gal Clown artiste in his new song has once again put an almost humorous yet real spin to a relatable issue. The new single, which promises to be a hit in the streets puts context to seemingly regular occurrences of marriages or affairs gone sour due to the infidelities and jealousy of one or both parties.
Convo’s release was not just a lyrical treat. The late-night YouTube video release was the collaborative work of Emudio and RDStudios. Mild and visually complimenting, the scenes of the video paints the picture of the emotional and revealing phone conversation between the so-called ‘Joe’ and the victimized husband – Chris who is played by Deno Crazy.
After making what the cheating wife (Keisha) would call a careless call, the artiste reveals sensuous details of the marital infidelity performed by his consort. After Chris reveals himself as Keisha’s husband, he heads to the kitchen for a knife and threatens to harm himself and his wife. Govana then unpretentiously encourages prayerful intervention and the sharing of Keisha.
Govi’s friend Fire Stick intervenes and suggests giving Keisha a violent response but the singer reprimands him saying, “encourage the man and tell him no violence against woman.”
Is Convo a story ‘later-on-in-the-news’ to the Taurus Riley and Govana’s ‘Unanswered’’ 2018 collaboration?
Could it be inspired by the threats of an outraged boyfriend over a female fan who recently treated Dexta Dapps to ‘a wine’ on stage?
Or is it a pure representation of a current issue in a conversational arrangement?
Jamaica and Jamaicans are known to be the source of inspiration, and rightly so, Govi may have been watching the news. But, whatever, the answer to these questions, the Unanswered artiste’s phone call was regrettably answered.
Fan reaction to Convo has been overwhelmingly positive with many “rating” the quality of the video and storytelling. They were weak for the ending when Chris tells his wife, “Yave ambition me rate dat”.

Almost bragging, fans of the 4th Genna, have also asked, “When last has dancehall been this current?” Govana’s team wasted no time to release this single, although the artiste’s first album is still in promotion mode. This move speaks volumes. It translates the heart of the artiste toward his fans and the importance to serve them. Not that most artistes do not have the ability to release current music. But for some artiste or managers, it may be ‘all about the business.’
