Popcaan Reunites With Melissa Steel At UK Show: “We Got Something New Coming Real Soon”
Popcaan and Melissa Steel reunited at the O2 Victoria Warehouse in Manchester on Sunday, performing their 2014 summer hit Kisses for Breakfast. The 876Gad, who is currently on tour in the UK, also took the stage with local acts such as Giggs and Kano.
In clips from the event, Steel, 30, serenaded the crowd with her verses and the hook from the song, produced by Wundah. When wrapping up their session, Popcaan told the crowd that Melissa was like “family” to him before announcing: “We got something new coming real soon.”
In an Instagram post on Monday, the British singer expressed gratitude to the Dancehall star and teased their upcoming work together. “Big shout out to my friend @popcaanmusic for bringing me onto his stage last night,” she wrote. “It was an honour to perform our hit together. More to come!”
Released through Warner Music, Kisses For Breakfast was Steel’s first single as a lead artist, and she jetted to Jamaica to link up with Popcaan for the video shot at Hellshire Beach in Portmore, St. Catherine.
The video has picked up over 27 million views on YouTube.
Steel celebrated the song’s impact on her career, particularly its summertime associations, in an Instagram post last year. “This song changed my life! Summer time memories!” she noted.
Kisses for Breakfast is a notable success for both artists, reaching No. 10 on the UK Singles Chart, Popcaan’s highest entry on the listing, and Steel’s second-highest after I Loved You, a collab with Blonde which peaked at No. 7.
The track was certified Silver in the UK in August 2021, signifying over 200,000 units sold.
Popcaan’s other successful collaborations with female British singers, include Come Over with Jorja Smith and I’m In Control with AlunaGeorge, which peaked at No. 35 and No. 39 on the UK Singles chart, respectively. Both songs are certified Silver in the country.
